Amir Khan steps into the promoter’s seat, turning his focus to Ghana in an ambitious bid to reinvigorate African boxing.
On June 13, in partnership with Legacy Promotions, the former unified world champion brings a high-profile fight night to Accra – an event that they hope will mark the start of a new international boxing frontier.
Backed by streaming service DAZN, the ‘explosive’ card will be headlined by American cruiserweight Andrew Tabiti (21-2, 17 KOs) against local standout Jacob Dickson (14-1, 13 KOs), with British fighter Ohara Davies (25-4, 18 KOs) returning from a brief retirement in the co-main event to face Tanzania’s Mohammed Aliseni (22-9-3, 13 KOs).
On the ‘historic night, Khan said:
“Ghana is a place I would’ve loved to fight. The energy, the history, the passion for boxing is unreal. I’m not in the ring anymore, but I’m still fighting – for the next generation.”
The former world champion has revived his promotional outfit, AK Promotions, specifically for this collaboration with Legacy Promotions, a rising player on the continent. CEO Sharaf Mahama emphasized the goal of creating a recurring platform, saying:
“This isn’t just a boxing event – it’s a statement.”
Africa has often been a talking point rather than a real priority in global boxing and the hopes will be for this event to kick start more focus.
The undercard features several African and international prospects, including Daniel Gorsh vs Theophilus Allotey for the WBO Africa Bantamweight Title, Ahmed Abdula vs Haruna Mohammed for the Ghana National Title and UK-based Shiloh Defreitas as well as Bulgarian Olympic prospect Radoslav Rosenov are also scheduled.
